...this is why I'll never use tobacco.

“I will never use tobacco because it killed my Grandpas…I miss them.”
Amanda - Grade 7
Our Lady of Fatima - Coquitlam

First is the obvious, Chuck Norris doesn’t smoke.  Second is plain and simple…Killer Chemicals – THAT KILL. Third, why the heck would you want BLACK LUNGS!  Personally, tobacco is the most gross thing ever…why in the world would you put your life at risk, just for a stimulated feeling!”
Connor - Grade 7
Mulgrave School – West Vancouver

“…I think that tobacco destroys and takes your future year by year, slowly causing misery.
So it is purely out of self ethics, and knowledge that I will never use tobacco.”

Stephen- Grade 10
Victoria High School – Victoria

“…people can be influenced by their friends and family in which they trust and take advice from,
the last thing I want, is for my friends and family to suffer from anything I may have started.”

Heather - Grade 7
Mulgrave School – West Vancouver

“…I will never use tobacco because I have a younger brother and I would be setting a bad example.”
Dave - Grade 8
Queensborough Middle School – New Westminster

“…At home I have my parents, grandparents and older brother who is in grade 10 and if I smoked they
would lose trust in me.  I am the youngest in the family and if I smoked I would disappoint not only
me but my family.  Therefore, I would never ever use tobacco and you shouldn’t either.”

Nirmal - Grade 8
Queensborough Middle School – New Westminster

“…Smoking is like war, it can kill you and others around you.”
Alex - Grade 7
Our Lady of Fatima – Coquitlam

“…I will never smoke because it’s dangerous and since I have asthma, it would be even harder on my lungs….. Also it would be a very bad influence for my two little brothers.”
Rayna - Grade 6
Green Timers Elementary – Surrey

“…My mother used to smoke and she regrets wasting her time on smoking.  Our time on earth is
precious. Life is what you make of it, so we should always move forward in life,
we don’t need tobacco holding us back!”

Tim - Grade 7
Dr. Perry Elementary – Grand Forks

“I will never use tobacco because I don’t want to forget my cigarette somewhere and start a fire!”
Cameron - Grade 5
Ecole des deuz Rives – Mission

“…because smoking hurts more than just you!”
Ava - Grade 12
Moscrop Secondary – Burnaby

Tobacco
A weed among the plants we find
That hurt the body and the mind,
Yet in the way of self-abuse,
We see it constantly in use.
Unpleasant to the smell and taste,
Yet men for it their money waste,
The reason why I scarce can tell
For none at first do like it well.
Some do it chew ad some do it smoke
My tar will fill your lungs and throat
My smoke fills your nose to heights,
I’ll trick you by saying that I’, “light”
Smoke me a pack a day,
And know your money's gone.
Your cravings are getting bigger
And will only prolong.
Now you’re getting feisty, begging “Oh Please!”
It’s because of your addiction
Your mind is twisted
Under the control of my nicotine…

Alexandra - Grade 7
Arrow Heights - Revelstoke

“I won’t use tobacco because I was there when my grandpa died of cancer from cigarettes.”
Chiara - Grade 7
A.H.E. – Revelstoke

“The reason I will never use tobacco is because it gives people lung cancer like my step-grandma
who died from lung cancer.  And it rots your teeth.  You can also get a tracheotomy on your neck.
Using tobacco also kills the environment and all of the animals inside of it.  Tobacco also affects your
heart by giving you heart disease. I won’t smoke because I don’t want to ruin my own life.”

Mackenzie - Grade 5 - Columbia Park Elementary – Revelstoke

“I won’t use tobacco because I do not want children to look up to me and do the same when I am older”
Paden - Grade 7 - C.P.E. – Revelstoke

“The reason I will never smoke is because of my family.  Seeing them smoke breaks my heart.
It makes me understand how horrible smoking is.”

Jessica - Grade 7
Dr. D. A. Perley Elementary – Grand Forks

“I will never use tobacco because it makes your life shorter!”
Dillon - Grade 6
Oliver Elementary School – Oliver

“I know using tobacco is bad!  I will never use tobacco…because my uncle uses
tobacco and he smells bad and his house smells bad too!”

Kreston - Grade 7
N.C.I. – Nanaimo

“I will never use tobacco because I have too much to live for.  My friends, family, my health and
being active are very important to me.  Not smoking is a present I give to myself.”

Linette - Grade 9
Moscrop Secondary – Burnaby

“I will never use tobacco because why would I basically pay people to kill me?  It also smells yucky.
I also like to run so if I smoke my lungs will go black and it will be hard to breath.”

Carly - Grade 6
Seaview Elementary/Jr. Secondary – Port Alice

“I will never use tobacco because it’s difficult to quit and if you spend all your money on cigarettes
you are most likely to end up homeless.  My dad smokes and I probably will not have asthma
because my dad tries not to smoke around me and my brother.  I’m kind of worried about him because when he tries to quit he gets a bit cranky and usually he’s really nice and I don’t want to smoke and get mad at them for no reason.  I wouldn’t want my teeth to turn yellow because I try really hard to
keep them clean by brushing in the morning and before I go to sleep.”

Preeti - Grade 6
Green Timers - Surrey

I skate down the ice at top speed.
I suck in the air thirstily – a deep cold breath as satisfying as a cold glass of water.
My mom tells me about my grandpa who dies of lung cancer.
He was thirsty for breath too – but he couldn’t satisfy it because of his tar-filled lungs.
He didn’t know what cigarettes do when he started smoking – I do.

Maddy - Grade 8
Aspengrove School – Lantzville

“I will never use tobacco because I don’t want to waste money and when I grow up, I want lots of kids!”
Lulu - Grade 5
Frank Hobbs Elementary School – Victoria

“I will never use tobacco because…it’s a bad example for other people, especially kids.”
Natalie - Grade 8
Bert Bowes Junior Secondary School – Fort St. John

“I personally hate the smell of smoke having lived next to smokers for most of my life.
I hear them coughing and it makes my chest hurt just from listening to it.”

Calia - Grade 9
KLO Middle School – Kelowna
