To promote healthy lifestyles by preventing and/or reducing the problem use of alcohol and other drugs through education and advocacy.
Since it was founded in 1952, the Alcohol-Drug Education Service (A-DES) has delivered its message of education and prevention through programs in schools and communities.
Current programs and initiatives include:
- Making Decisions – a curriculum-based program delivered in classrooms to grades four through nine.
- Parents as Preventors™ – a prevention program designed to empower parents to influence their children by forming strong family and school connectivity.
- Professionals as Preventors – training for educators, police, social workers and those who work with youth.
- Resources such as fact sheets and tip sheets.
- Tobacco Free Sports – a provincial initiative to reduce the association between tobacco and sport. Includes the development of resources and the website tobaccofreesports.ca
- Alcohol and drug information for youth, including the site, drugfacts.ca
